I am in love with clay and like any devoted servant I let it take me where it will. One path I am repeatedly drawn to relates to the cosmic dualities that energize our world; forces that merge, emerge, contain, release; forces embodied in the differentiation of gender, age, species; and most important, that great duality of war and enlightenment.
I think about war - this current war our country is engaged in and war in general - constantly. It is an obscene thought, abhorrent and disgusting. The idea of mortal conflict played out with human agents mesmerizes my conscience and infuses my most expressive work. No matter how much I understand about the forces that result in war I will never understand my species fascination with using such forms of destruction.
