Mary Lou D'Auray
Photograph/painting
The majority of my oils and acrylics are color-filled abstractions, done layer by layer, with each level creating deep passageways to profound environments. My watercolors reflect either a geometric or impressionistic interpretation of locations visited during travels around the world. I have also done a series depicting concern with the struggles faced by those living in the Middle East and enduring the war happening in Iraq. In photography, I love taking pictures of flowers, people, light, color and abstraction.
As a child I was thrilled by glorious sparkling and colored light that came streaming through stained glass windows. Those remembrances permeate my paintings. Through the years, I felt drawn to the works of artists Eugene Delacroix, Howard Hodgkin, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler and Ross Bleckner. Joy, eroticism, energy, color, tension, fluidity and light are all elements you will find in my art.
