Sculpture
I was born and raised in Neihart, Montana. Not owning many material things growing up, I developed a talent for making things using simple materials around the house or out in the yard. This little “hobby” followed me to San Francisco State University where I graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts and went on to work for a custom plastics company for six years. In 1974 when the company moved, I got the bug to do sculptures using acrylic. While this was happening, a stream of industrial model- making jobs flowed in and shortly my art career was put on hold in order to tap into more profitable jobs. The Plasticsmith became the company name I would use for the next 33 years. The work served the purpose of putting our two kids through college but I could never shake off the art “bug.” About 5 years ago I started carving pieces from wood during the spare time I could find. This was my true passion and a few years later realized clay was my choice of materials.
In 2007 I shut my business down and am currently devoting my time doing what I’ve always wanted to do. Drawing inspiration from New Yorker cartoons to fairy tales and my own vivid dreams, my sculptures reflect the components of humor, familiarity and surprise. I relish the opportunity to share my work with the broader public.
Photography
Photography hooked me later in life’s journey, right after my first digital camera. The hook sunk deeper with the introduction of the digital SLR. Now, just about every non rainy day I’m out with my camera in hand. Each photo on this site represents being at the right place and exercising lots of patience. Hope you enjoy viewing them.
